German government accuses news website of treason over leaks

Germany has opened a conspiracy examination concerning a news site a telecaster said had given an account of arrangements to build state observation of online correspondences.

German media said it was the first run through in over 50 years columnists had confronted conspiracy charges, and some reprimanded the move as an assault on the flexibility of the press.

"The government prosecutor has begun an examination on suspicion of treachery into the articles ... distributed on the web blog Netzpolitik.org," a representative for the prosecutor's office said.

She included the move took after a criminal dissention by Germany's local knowledge office, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), over articles about the BfV that showed up on the site on 25 February and 15 April. It said the articles had been in view of spilled records.

The general population supporter ARD reported Netzpolitik.org had distributed an article on how the BfV was looking for additional financing to expand its online reconnaissance, and another about arrangements to set up a unique unit to screen social networking, both in light of released secret archives.

The site has some expertise in web governmental issues, information assurance, flexibility of data and computerized rights issues.

"This is an assault on the opportunity of the press," Netzpolitik.org columnist Andre Meister, focused by the examination alongside supervisor in-boss Markus Beckedahl, said in an announcement. "We're not going to be scared by this."

Michael Konken, leader of the German press affiliation, resounded the opinion and called the test "an unsatisfactory endeavor to gag two basic columnists".
